The iconic redevelopment of the Boulevard Theatre at Walker's Court, Soho, London is a perfect example of how VR can be used to streamline the design process in architectural projects. In this instance, Virtual Reality helped to proof the model – including materials, furnishing and scope – of a cultural project that will rejuvenate an iconic area in Soho, London.
The moment the client first put on an Oculus Rift and stepped into a life-size model of the Theatre, their concerns about the scale of the design were put at ease. VR subsequently became a crucial part of the design process, with the developer, architect and designers all using it to proof the design and suggest improvements. This model continues to be updated and used by the stage manufacturer, lighting designer and construction company as they create a one-of-a-kind multi-configuration theatre.
